All under one very special roof.

With a total capacity of 8,000 seats, the Centre National Sportif et Culturel in Kirchberg fills a gap in leisure and entertainment facilities, while the modular construction underneath the curved roof offers a wide range of possible uses: the main area is designed for international athletic meets and has six 200-metre tracks; the “smaller” arena with 1,000 stand seats is 45 x 27 metres. A judo hall, boxing hall, table tennis hall, weightlifting room, body building room and a warm-up pool complete the range of offers. The changing rooms and service areas, catering facilities and press stands, meet the highest international standards. There are even 31 bedrooms available for guests and athletes.

With a free span of up to 95 metres, the roof construction of laminated wood beams is unique. Such demanding civil engineering called for high levels of precision in constructing the interfaces between the roof and the façade. Under the direction of HOCHTIEF Luxembourg, the skills of our partners were fully utilised. Only then was it possible to fulfil the high levels of precision in construction.

During construction, we moved 150,000 m3 of rock and earth and poured 38,000 m3 of concrete. Massive abutments take the load of the 95-metre-wide span of the edge beams
